I'd thought I'd open this up with an idea for a new dwarf cleric spell. I'm thinking a variation on the 6th level cleric spell "stone tell" get it? stones, dwarves, etc. Stonetell lets you freely converse with any stones for 10 minutes, the stones can give you full descriptions and you can talk as much as you want within the 10 minutes. I was thinking of making a third level cleric spell that lets you ask one yes or no question of a stone.

1 - 100 gold 1d4
2- D20 was a 5 Snakes Poison save is 10
12. The Hangover: First day of adventuring is at -2 to-hit and saves. Casters must roll Int check with each spell to avoid spell mishap.

Sorry guys I avoid carousing normally so it may take me some time. I want to search Threshold for a replacement Font. So I would go to the clerics and tith to find more information on the font and its role. If it is used to close the portal as we've been told how else can the portal be shut, by spell perhaps? Then I would ask if they have ever heard of such a holy relic. If they say yeah in the Barrowmaze I ask if any other holy relics have surfaced nearby. I inform them that we have made our way close to an unnatural portal in the maze and if they have any clerics willing to clense the area. We might need an old priest and a young priest.
If I failed my save I think I do this and drink very heavily at the tavern and make up a bunch of crap in a drunken stupor.

I was browsing clerical spells in LL advanced book and I noticed this under animate dead: "A lawful character that casts this spell may draw disfavor from his god." basically this spell is out for lawful clerics. considering how handy this spell is, i mean you can raise an army of undead fodder to fight for you (and in the barrowmaze where bones are EVERYWHERE, I mean c'mon), I thought I'd propose a new spell.

So basically, I was thinking of making a lawful only type third level spell that would give something back to the st. ygg lovers of the group. Essentially I would have Cromwell pray for a spell like this:

"Cromwell's Lawful Gavel"
Must be Lawful
third level spell
range 40 ft.

In a 10 ft. radius within the caster's line of sight, a glowing light strikes down targets within. This causes all creatures who fail a save versus spells to immediately fall prone. Additionally, any undead within the radius must take 1d6 per two caster levels of magic damage on a failed save. For example, a 6th level cleric casting this spell would knock a group of Undead creatures prone and inflict 3d6 damage, though the man at arms fighting them at the time would merely be knocked prone (assuming they all failed their save).

Keep in mind it's a third level spell and would take considerable advancement before use, and may very well never see the light of day. It's only a blueprint of a thought I had, I wanted to see what inital reactions were.

Things went pretty well for Milren it seems. I rolled a 19 on a d20 for the poison save, and a 5 on a d6 4 on a d4 for gold spent (hopefully you've been able to verify that).

Basically what Milren wants to do for his carousing and out of game time is to find out any information that he can on the Barrowmaze. Specifically though, he wants to find out what curse or dark magic (and the origin of aforementioned magic) is causing the dead to rise, as he knows that it is clearly not a naturally occurring phenomena. He'll also take any information on the size, depth, treasure rumors or anything relating to the maze itself. This all is part of his quest to cleanse the Barrowmaze and stop the undead from infringing on his woodlands.

He is also going to send a homing bird to his druidic circle and inform them of any progress he has made.

On another note, I'm stating that Milren is going to place 100 copper pieces in the magic bag for this week, to determine if it can hold objects safely.

Milren is also going to try and create a scroll of Entangle with 2 entangle spells written onto it as we agreed scroll making takes place aside from carousing. The scroll he is going to attempt is a scroll of Entangle (2 spells) for 500 gold/2 weeks. if 2 weeks is too long then he'll make a scroll with one level for 250 gold.

He subsequently placed them all around town and let all who knew of their group prior that they had changed or I should say picked a name.

Incase anyone's wondering, the fine print reads: The Syndicate is not liable for any losses, monetary or bodily by our employees.

Vith's recent carousing result gave me an idea for a new second level magic-user spell. I'm going to suggest it here.

Scar of Ghastly Countenance

Level: 2
Duration: 1 round per caster level (max 5)
Range: 50 ft.

This spell when cast imbues any scars on the caster's body with dark magical energy. The pulsing magical aura makes the scar appear indescribably gruesome and hideous. 2d8 HD of creature starting with those closest to the caster must make a save vs spells or suffer a +4 to AC for the duration of the spell. In order for the spell to work properly, the caster must have a scar visible on his person such as on his face, hands or any other place not obscured by clothing or armor, and must not be invisible or hidden. An equally grotesque physical feature (one that would usually detract from a character's charisma) such as fanged teeth, or a large visible growth for example may also work in place of a scar. The caster's charisma score is lowered by 3 points for 1d6 turns after casting. The magic of the spell is so that it will not affect allies. However the lowered charisma will affect anyone (effectively lowering morale scores). The spell does not work on enemies who are blinded, or otherwise can not see.

That is what I thought of for the spell, feel free to yay or nay it, or even tweak it if you think it is OP'd or anything like that.

Ok Greg you said, you wanted Hillgax to have Skull Crusher, which is probably a wise move. So, you can have the +1 shield that he was using, that saved his ass on many occasions. Hillgax also has a fine dagger, which I think is magical. He could probably give that to Scratch, although if you wanted to roleplay it Scratch would need to give up gold to him? maybe. up to you Greg.

I found these short little snippits in a nerd confession article on the interwebs.

I met a lovely young lady recently who is a bit of a workaholic. She’s gorgeous and everything I can imagine in a woman. Too bad her only day off is Wednesday. Wednesday is D&D night. I told her it wasn’t going to work. I might die alone, but at least my level 19 rogue is badass.
-Janus
When I suffered a stroke, I had my brother make one call for me. I had him tell the Dungeon Master that I wasn’t likely to make it to D&D that weekend.
-Juwl
Last week, my dad went on about how proud he was that I was taking school seriously because I had been taking notes for four hours. Boy did he look disappointed when he realized I was taking notes on the Dungeons and Dragons handbook.
-Marlie
I just moved most of my Dungeons and Dragons books over to my girlfriend's house. I consider this a bigger step than keeping a toothbrush in her bathroom.
-Ash

Carousing Rules and Guidelines:

The purpose of carousing is to provide an opportunity to earn XP by spending gold.

Although "carousing" is defined as boisterous, drunken merry-making you can "carouse" for anything (within reason) in the game. Yes, you can go on a crazy bender filled with ale and debauchery, but you can also research a spell, have some special tools made, rebuild a tavern, visit with NPCs, research the secret signs of a particular dwarf clan, try to rustle up river passage through the swamps, etc. Be creative!

So How Does Carousing Work?

Carousing happens on the forum, exclusively. That'll give us time to add color, give the DM time to adjudicate interesting failure, and make carousing less of an afterthought at the end of a session. You title a post "Carousing for Vith" in the Northern Reaches Chat area and indicate what you want to do. Keep using the same post for the same character.

STEP ONE: You roll twice using the secure dice roller posted to the yahoo group email list:

Roll 1: 1d4 (for XP/GP). This is the amount of gold spent and the amount of experience you receive (1d4 will be used for first through third level).
Roll 2: 1d20 (Save versus poison). There is risk in carousing. Make your save and nothing happens. Fail your save and you must roll 1d20 on STEP 2: Failed Save Random Carousing Results.

Example: If you roll a 3 on a d4 for example, you spend 300GP and gain 300XP. Rolling a gold/xp amount greater than the carouser's cash on hand results in the poor wretch owing money to various unsavory characters, and they'll want interest (or blood).

So why carouse for something you can just pay for (like a tavern)? Because it's fun, it's a chance to add depth to your character and the setting, and most importantly, you can earn xp.

STEP TWO: Failed Save Random Carousing Results:

Failure indicates the need to roll on the table below. The exact results are interpreted by the DM, specific to your character:

*Note: This table doesn't work for all the various types of carousing you can dream up. The DM will determine the result if the goal of your carousing doesn't fit the table.

1. Pooping in the Village Well: You embarass yourself in public. Gain no XP. Roll Charisma check or gain reputation in this town as a louzy, no-good drunk.

2. Dust-Up: You get involved in a tavern brawl.
