Session 07

The party removes the final taint from the lower crypts of the Iron God

This session was played on Friday, December 18, 2010.

Featuring the PCs:

Vith and his man-at-arms Werford and Samfirth.
Binford and his man-at-arms Gilag and Wermat.

the henchman Hillgax ands his men-at-arms Mulm and Mulig
and the henchman Bryton of Mystral, and his man-at-arms Rothmak and the torch-bearer Gomar the Gozarian.

With the majority of the second level explored, this was a relatively short session.

The party seemed a little heavy on men-at-arms, but that situation rectified itself as the game wore on. Muahahaha.

Vith, Binford, and the others began by searching for secret doors in select locations. They didn't find anything, but managed to run into some random monsters (giant rats). Vith's sleep spell ended that battle quickly.

Continuing down a long corridor searching with their 10' pole, they entered a small crypt. Five skeletons jumped out of the alcoves and attacked. One skeleton fell into a pit trap and the others died largely by club and mace.

The most interesting of the remaining rooms was a crypt containing three unique sarcophagi and 20 zombies!!!

The party immediately realized they were outmatched but were fortunate to win initiative. Having learned valuable lessons on the effective use of flaming oil, they threw down oil on a 10ft square and lit the area. About a third of the zombies mindlessly marched through the flames and died. Another small number were turned. The remainder fought a pitched battle against the adventurers. Bryton was reduced to zero hit point but made his save versus death. A blue globe thrown by Binford healed him back to life, although Binford was under the impression that the globe would cause damage to the zombies.

In this battle, Binford's men-at-arms fared particularly poorly. The dwarf man-at-arms Gilag Greathelm and Wermat were killed and fed on by zombies. The torch-bearer Gomar the Gozarian was also killed.

After the battle the group searched the sarcophagi and found gold loot and a blazing green skeleton (with 5HD!). Bindford, Bryton, and Hillgax battled the creature back to death.

With the death of the blazing green skeleton, the undead taint was removed from the crypts of the Iron God. The quest completed, the Iron God removed the geas he placed on Binford and the remaining party members returned to Threshold laden in gold (and XP).

Vith advanced to second level and received the title of Spellweaver! Woot!
Binford advanced to third level and received the title of Friar! Huzzah!
