The fellowship revisits the Caves of Chaos and probes the kobold defenses
This session was played on Monday, January 25, 2011.
Featuring the PCs:
Vith
Binford and his man-at-arms Aldoon.
Scratch and his torch-bearer Kaltag
the henchmen Hillgax and Bryton with his man-at-arms Rothmak
This was a very short evening session. The party restocked in Threshold and returned the following day to the goblin and hobgoblin caves.
Having killed the hobgoblin chief, and the Ogre near the goblin caves, the few remaining hobgoblins and goblins decided to bug out.
The hobgoblins did leave their prisoners behind, and the adventurers did release the merchant and his wife. The men-at-arms had died of their wounds and they left the orc and the gnoll in their respective prisons.
Upon returning to Threshold, the party received a reward of 100gp from the merchant and his wife gave a fine dagger to Hillgax (randomly determined). She lifted her nose at Scratch the Halfling who attempted to extort increase the reward prior to releasing them.
The next day they returned to the canyon and entered a small cave. As they did, a group of 8 kobold warriors jumped down and attacked! They made several hits, but Vith decided to blow his load cast a sleep spell and that was the end of the kobolds.
The group then volun-told elected to send the halfling in to set off scout for traps. Scratch managed to enter just on the edge of a concealed pit prior to lifting tail back to the cave entrance.
Having received a favourable report from Scratch, the party moved in with their 10' pole and set off the concealed pit trap.
At the same time a small group of kobolds hidden in the darkness began throwing their spears and javelins at the party from the other side of the pit.
Aldoon the man-at-arms was hit twice and retreated to the cave entrance. The party was, how should I say, ranged-challenged, with few possessing decent missile weapons. So Friar Binford dropped his mace and search through his backpack for the nectar of life a vial of oil. The torch-bearer Kaltag lit the bottle and Binford moved forward saying a quick prayer to the Iron God.
The Iron God heard his prayer and guided his hand with a NATURAL 20!!!! The vial of flaming oil hit the foremost kobold and exploded. All the kobolds were covered in oily flame and died quick, painful deaths!
Despite the great excitement we needed to end the session. We thus returned to Threshold and plan on another foray soon.
